MARTA CAMILLA VOLLONO
I originates from Bascapè, a small town in northern Italy. In 2023, I graduated from the University of Pavia with a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnologies. I obtained her Master's degree in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies from the same university at the end of 2025.
My master's thesis focused on the biological testing of innovative bone cements for bone regeneration. During my internship, I also tested the antimicrobial properties of different bone prosthesis materials. Furthermore, I were able to explore the impact of various treatments on infected macrophages.
In March 2026, I joined the SHIELD Doctoral Network as a PhD student at the University Hospital Regensburg in Germany. Under the supervision of Professor Martijn Riool, i am working on the project ‘Establishment of in vivo chronic orthopaedic device-related staphylococcal infection models’.
The aim of my project is to develop in vivo models that can recapitulate features of chronic implant-related infections.
