GISELA GARCÍA PERÉZ

My name is Gisela García Pérez, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Havana (Cuba). I hold an industrial Master’s degree in Biotechnology (Cuba) and a Master’s in Biotech and Pharmaceutical Management from University College London (UCL, UK).

I previously worked at the Center for Molecular Immunology and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Cuba, where I were involved in the genetic engineering of cell lines using lentivirus and CRISPR/Cas9, protein engineering for the development of immunotherapies, generation of a biosimilar and preclinical and clinical studies.

I have joined the SHIELD doctoral network under the supervision of Íñigo Lasa at Fundación Miguel Servet (Navarra, Spain), in March 2026.

During my PhD research, I will aim to develop phage-based strategies (natural and recombinant) for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infections in prosthetic implants.
