AYUSH BHATTACHARYA
I am from Kolkata, India, where he completed his integrated Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biotechnology at St. Xavier's College. During my studies, I developed expertise in microbial genomics and computational drug discovery, which sparked my interest in translational research. Driven by this interest, I joined the Proteomics Laboratory at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where I applied mass spectrometry-based tissue proteomics and serum metabolomics to uncover novel biological insights in pituitary adenoma.
I subsequently extended my research to serum metabolite and lipid markers in meningioma and acute kidney injury, before contributing to a collaborative project with the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, investigating plasma proteome and metabolite markers of tuberculosis recurrence.
I joined the SHIELD Doctoral Network in May 2026 as Doctoral Candidate 6, hosted at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
My PhD project investigates the proteome profile of implant-associated infections in bone conduction hearing implants, integrating microbial and clinical data to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The ultimate goal is to enable patient risk stratification, prevent implant failure, and inform the development of personalised maintenance and interceptive care protocols for improved device outcomes.
