OMBRETTA BALBI
I am originally from Milan, Italy. I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in 2022 in Animal Science at the university of Milan and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology in 2024 in the same university. During her studies she spent one semester in Lisbon, Portugal and one in Uppsala, Sweden as an Erasmus+ student.
In my Master thesis and later research experience, I focused on studying the impact of plasma extracellular vesicles on innate immune system cells and miRNA as biomarkers.
I joined SHIELD Doctoral Network in March 2026 as DC9 at the Universität Hospital Regensburg, where I am working on the development of a hydrogel-based system for realizing bacteriophages-based therapy for the prevention of infection in bone conducting hearing implants.
The aim of the project is to find new strategies for inhibit bacteria adhesion and proliferation on hearing devices.
